Peer Pressure Essays - Youth, Habits, Management, Peer Pressure
Companion Pressure Essays - Youth, Habits, Management, Peer Pressure Companion Pressure Companion Pressures of High School Glaring down at the ruddy gleam originating from the tip of the cigarette, I discovered that I was in a friend pressure circumstance. Companion Pressure can be a colossal issue for some youthful grown-ups. It can in some cases be sure, yet more often than not its negative and damaging. Smoking is only one of the companion pressures somebody can experience. Liquor and remaining out late can likewise be tremendous friend pressures in secondary school. I know this since I have encountered them for myself. Drinking, smoking and remaining out late were steady friend pressures all through my secondary school vocation. Looking down at the cigarette and being urged by my companion to endure a shot off of it, I realized that smoking was not something I needed to do around then in my life. Albeit smoking wasnt a colossal friend pressure for me, it very well may be for other people. A portion of my companions gave into the weight and are currently dependent on cigarettes, and wish they hadnt yield to that friend pressure in secondary school. I would have say that during secondary school, smoking was the most determined companion pressure. It was at each gathering and assembling. Despite the fact that it was there all the time once in a while liquor would pop up at a portion of the gatherings. Drinking was presumably the most risky companion pressure. It was very illicit for an underage grown-up to be found drinking during this time. I never encountered this friend pressure during secondary school since I didnt stay nearby those sorts of individuals during that time. They were the kinds of individuals who didnt think it was a gathering except if there was liquor included. I have seen drinking absolutely fall apart individuals, since it bamboozled them. A portion of my companions completely changed after they began drinking. From the outset it was only a social activity at parties, yet then lead on to drinking during their extra time. It influenced their evaluations and their general conduct. I do think this was the most perilous companion pressure in secondary school, yet there was consistently the strain to remain out late. Remaining out late was a friend pressure I surrendered to on a few events during secondary school. I realize it influenced my evaluations commonly, and furthermore made me behind schedule for school more than once. In secondary school you could generally recognize the understudies who remained out late. Those understudies were consistently the ones nodding off in class. At the point when I was spending time with the ones who never stayed out late, I generally got the chance to class on schedule and never nodded off in class. Friend compel was not difficult to oppose in secondary school. I discovered so as to get you far from certain companion pressures simply avoid the individuals who you knew would attempt to impact you. Opposing companion pressure is all in whom you go out with, and whom you call your companions. Friend pressure can't be completely evaded, yet avoiding circumstances where you realize a companion pressure circumstance will happen, will support your chances.

Potlatch The Sharing And Shaming Essay Example For Students
Potlatch The Sharing And Shaming Essay Anth 166Potlatch- The Sharing and ShamingA potlatch is defined by Barbara Miller as ?A grand feast in which guests areinvited to eat and to receive gifts from the hosts.?This is shown in the last film we saw, Ongkas Big Moka. Ongka had been the receiving end at a potlatch in the past, and it was his turn to provide the feast. However, ?Later, when it is the guests turn to hold a potlatch, they will try to give away as much as or more than their host did, thus shaming him into giving the next potlatch.?We see this in the way Ongka feels compelled to provide almost 200 more pigs than his hosts did when he was their guest. Ongkas people did not have any kind of wealth (other than animals). Whatever type of class structure there might be came from the amount a person would give at their potlatch. The functional theory Miller refers to ?looks at a given practice or belief in terms of its contribution to the cultural continuity.? The contribution to the cultural community. When a person gives a great amount at a potlatch, because it is a contribution to the cultural community, that person gains a certain stature. Therefore, it is not really the generous nature of a person that leads him to provide these things for his community, but rather, the stature that they can gain from this donation. This is not true of the Igbo people in Chinua Achebes Things Fall Apart. While the Igbo people do engage in reciprocal gift giving, they are more apt to share with a guest the kola nuts which contain, like coffee, a mild stimulant. In the Igbo culture, wealth is more determined by the amount of wives and children that he can support. This may be seen as true with Ongka too; since the wealth in that culture is determined mainly by animals and the amount they can provide at a potlatch, these things are similar to what is needed to support a family. ?Potlatching demonstrates how closely linked production, consumption, and exchange are.? Potlatching not only demonstrates these things, but also demonstrates how wealth and stature are perceived and achieved in these cultures. It is a way to provide for others as well, but more than that, a way to provide for onself and ones family. When one holds a potlatch, one can expect the favor to be returned. For Ongka, he had to provide more than the person who held the potlatch he went to, but he also knew that in the future, he would be invited to one even larger. Anthropology

This use of change in authorial voice emphasizes the differences between before and after the character comes into power, and this can be illustrates through not much was expected from me. I was left to myself and great dealmy appearance and demeanor did not pose a threat to anyone(line 3) and you see me now as a Sultan, surrounded by all the symbols of power. You are impressed and, possibly, even a bit frightened(line 4). Again, this depicts the change in tone, before the character came into power, he was very uncertain about himself with lack of confidence from the inattention of everyone. This sharply contrasts with after the use of You starts appearing. The you demonstrates the authority and confident in the character, as he shows a certainty of what he thinks, you are impressedyou worry that and look at me.(line 4-5/7) The symbol of power from the character is described several times through snake. Snake was mentioned in both childhood, when I was ninetrying to kill a snake (line 12), and grandmothers dream, one night I dreamt that a large man-swallowing snake(line 29), Although the snake is shown in different time periods in the story, therefore the author uses this shift in time to connect the existence of snake and this highlights the power that Saladin had was existed, since he was young. The imagine of power is conveyed through the use of terrifying phrases in relation to death, as the writer describes your head might roll in the dust(line 5), and kill a snake (line 12)and Crushing its head on a stonestamping on its head with our feet(line 14-15) . These phrases include fearful words, kill, crushing, and Stamping that are related to snake and head. Head and snake are mentioned several times throughout the passage with horrifying imagine and word choice, and this is used to foreshadow the power of the character has since he was young. This can be evident from in both when he was ten years old and trying to kill a snake and when he was in his mothers belly and walked out, sword in hand, and, with one mighty blow, decapitated the serpent here, it suggests that he kills them without any fear and again implies him as a leader liked person. The tension is built through the shift in time in the characters memories. This is shown through; Line 16-17 where the paragraph is constructed with one sentence. The use of one sentence 2 times exhibits the rising in tension, step by step, besides this; the intensity of the tone was also building up through some of the word choice and use of punctuation, Yusuf! Yusuf ibn Ayyub! Coming here at once!. Tension was still growing as the author uses fearful phrases , expecting a blow around my ear, legendary temper, stuck my father across the face to describe grandmother. From all these words, it emphasis the dreadfulness in the character , and this also has an effect on the readers when reading this as there will be an expectation of a madness of grandmother. Therefore, unexpectedly, before reaching to its climax, the tension was released as the writer states she hugged me and kissed me in turn on both my eyes, and this at the same time release the atmosphere in the story. .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e , .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e .postImageUrl , .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e , .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e:hover , .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e:visited , .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e:active { border:0!important; } .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e:active , .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u88b4d92fbc65d5d25a8f81a0365bd51e:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: English World Literature EssayThe structure of this passage is not presented chronologically, as the writer constructed the story with the switching in times. Although the time is constantly shifting, therefore each plot is related, and moreover the passage ends with referring back to the idea stated in the last line of the first paragraph. Fate and history conspired to make me what I am today (line10) and but even at this time this interpretation undoubtedly had a positive effect on me. The 2 sentences of the last paragraph summarized the whole idea of how Saladin became who he is today, and this also brings the readers back to the original time of who he is Now as mentio ned in line 3. This text is extracted from The book of Saladin written by Tariq Ali has a significance in the role of power within the character Saladin, this was shown through the shift in time. This passage shows Saladin was meant to be a Sultan with power through the killing of snake without any fear, and also more over the dream from grandmother in the past also foreshadow him to be a leader. Although, there were many evidences showing a sign that Saladin might have became a leader in the future, therefore without the guidance of the grandmother this would never happened. Likewise, in real life, people went through many things in order to become what they are today, and within these things, influence from surroundings is what to be seen as the most effective inspiration, just like Saladin and his grandmother.
